Cody R. Taylor, Ph.D., joined Appalachian State University’s Department of Government and Justice Studies in August 2025 as an Assistant Professor, right after completing his doctoral studies at North Carolina State University. Dr. Taylor’s dissertation, “Putting the Oliver Twist on Publicness Theory,” explores what characteristics can be used to predict whether and how organizations manage for public outcomes, such as investments in affordable housing or local businesses. Recently, Cody has served as an economic development analyst with NC Growth, where his work focused on how public institutions can create more resilient local economies through public procurement. He also served as an Economic Development Finance Fellow with Appalachian Community Capital, an Upward Bound Advisor, and has dedicated over ten years to the United States Navy Reserve.
