Carrie Mills, a graduate student in AppState’s Master of Arts in Political Science degree program, interned with the High Country Area Agency on Aging, within the High Country Council of Governments. The Area Agency on Aging is a regional organization designed to provide services and resources to an aging population in the High Country. These services include fall-prevention courses, caregiver support, memory-care support, and finding social services or healthcare-related resources for elderly or disabled community members. The agency is responsible for seven counties in the northwestern part of North Carolina. Carrie said, “I learned so much interning with the High Country Area Agency on Aging. Working with a regional aging coalition was an incredible experience and encouraged me to seek a career path in healthcare and wellness advocacy. Everyone I work with was so inclusive and helpful.”
