Senior criminal justice major Timothy Xiong worked with the Lenoir Police Department during his internship. In addition to traditional intern activities, such as ride-alongs, Timothy had the opportunity to shadow detectives while they discussed cases. He was allowed to attend meetings with clients and offenders for a first-hand learning experience and observe how detectives plan to solve a case. He also spent time shadowing the records and communication supervisors, as well as the individual workers in the department.
“I enjoyed interacting with the staff in the agency. They taught me so many things and helped build my social and communication skills, which allowed me to get out of my comfort zone. Working in different departments showed me how they each collectively contribute to making the agency and community better. “
