Senior criminal justice major Tyler Magazine worked with Raleigh Police Department during his internship. In addition to many traditional intern activities, Tyler participated in ride-alongs and observed investigations, gaining practical knowledge of procedures and techniques. He also attended departmental training sessions that focused on community engagement. Tyler offered the following comments on his internship: “The Specialized Internship Program offered by the Raleigh Police Department is an excellent opportunity for individuals who aspire to become law enforcement professionals. As an intern in this program, I received comprehensive mentorship, training, and real-life exposure to different aspects of modern policing. The best part of RPD's internship program is that it is customized to fit your interests and preferences. During my internship, I was placed in the investigative division, along with other interns, while another intern worked with the ACORNS unit. There were also instances when I spent a day in Special Ops or could have gone to the chief's office. As an intern, I worked closely with detectives in various units and assisted them in cases, providing them with a unique perspective they may not have considered otherwise. My participation in this program has allowed me to gain valuable insights and skills that have prepared me well for a successful career in law enforcement."
