Congratulations to the ASU moot court team. Six ASU students participated in the American Collegiate Moot Court Association's regional moot court competition held in Lynchburg, Virginia, November 7-9. Our students competed against teams from a number of universities, including the James Madison University, the University of Virginia, the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Patrick Henry, Washington and Lee, and Western Carolina. Two teams--Jessica Berkowitz and Andrew Eastwick, and Cory Hutchens and Alexandria Ransom--advanced to the finals, with Hutchens and Ransom making it through to the quarterfinals.
Moot court involves students presenting mock appellate arguments before a panel of judges. The competition is based on a hypothetical case problem and incorporates actual U.S. Supreme Court cases. The students study these cases, develop their own legal arguments, and then present and defend their arguments before the judges.
