Dr. Alixandra B. Yanus is the 2023-24 Daniel German Visiting Distinguished Professor of Political Science. She holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina—Chapel Hill and a B.A. in Political Science from American University, where she also earned a certificate in Women, Politics, and Public Policy. Her interdisciplinary teaching and research explore American political development, interest groups, equality, and representation. She is particularly interested in the politics of traditionally marginalized groups, including those who identify as Black, female/women, and LGBTQ+. Her more than forty peer-reviewed publications have appeared in outlets such as Politics, Groups, and Identities, Politics and Religion, Politics & Gender, Interest Groups and Advocacy, and Social Science Quarterly. Outside academia, she enjoys cooking, textile arts, printmaking, and stock car racing.
