Dr. Cathy Marcum

Dr. Catherine D. Marcum joined the Department of Government and Justice Studies in 2012 and is currently the Department Chair. She earned a Ph.D. in Criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her areas of teaching and research focus on correctional issues, cybercrime, and victimization, and very much enjoys working with students on research. She has published over 60 peer-reviewed journal articles and 20 books in her fields. Dr. Marcum will take over as editor of the Journal of Criminal Justice Education, a journal of Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, on July 1, 2023, and is Immediate Past Chair of the Division of Cybercrime for the American Society of Criminology. She is an active volunteer for the Girl Scouts of America, Watauga County Schools and other community organizations.
